The Lurie Spay/Neuter Clinic is the largest free and low-cost spay/neuter clinic in the Chicago Area, and one of the largest in the country.
In 2008, PAWS Chicago performed more than 15,000 surgeries, the majority of which are free for Chicago families on public assistance. PAWS Chicago also offers low-cost surgeries for under-resourced individuals and families who have the greatest need.
Mission
PAWS Chicago envisions a no-kill Chicago--a city in which pets are not
destroyed just because they are homeless. The only way to control dog and
cat overpopulation and the killing of adoptable animals is by decreasing
birth rates. This is why we opened the Lurie Spay/Neuter Clinic - the
only spay and neuter clinic of its kind located in and serving Chicago's
underserved communities.

Frequent Concerns/Myths about Spay/Neuter
| - |
It will make my pet fat! Spay and Neutering does not make your pet fat, lack of exercise and too
much food are responsible for that. |
| - |
It will change my pet's personality, he will no longer be a "man".
Spaying and Neutering does not change your pet's identity or personality,
pets reproduce from instinct and will live more relaxed and happier lives
when sterilized. |
| - |
The surgery is too stressful.
Spaying and Neutering is less stressful than having litter after litter of
puppies or kittens. |
| - |
My pet is too young or too old. We will sterilize as young as two months as long as they weigh two
pounds. If your pet is over 6 years old we require blood work to ensure
your pet is healthy enough to undergo anesthesia. |
