Dear PAWS Chicago:
Hi! My name is now Cassie, formerly Valencia of the
"European" puppies. I just stopped for a split second while playing in the snow
with my big brother named Bear. Although my look is very intense, I'm having
lots of fun! I seem to have found my wild roots and whenever there are sirens in
the neighborhood, I lift my head and howl. My human-parents think I'm talking to
my wolf-cousins. I hope all my old |
|
puppy friends are all doing as well as I am! - Cassie Ordower |

Hey PAWS!
Sammy (originally Sal) is just the best pooch ever! We can’t believe we
lucked out so well. He was housebroken and fairly well trained when we got him.
He is so playful, loves to play with other dogs in the neighborhood, runs after
toys and brings them back for another toss, cuddles like crazy, loves us as much
as we love him, and loves to squeak his toys to let us know he is ready to play.
He is also one of |
 |
|
the fastest dogs we’ve seen. He runs circles around our family room like the
Energizer puppy! Thanks, PAWS. - Audrey, Dan and Zev |

We are loving our new pet CeCe and renamed her Sweetie. She has adjusted
to the new name just fine. She has been a great addition to our family. She has
been great with being trained. She does well with being crated when we are not
home. She just finished her third week of training and is doing great at class!
We just adore everything about her.
Thanks again!

Dear PAWS Chicago,
Emila, now known as Emmie, has adjusted well to her new home. As you can
see, she is a beauty. When I first adopted Emmie she had a few mats and a
terrible dander problem. Now has a beautiful silky coat and is
dander-free. She is also queen of her domain and most recently has taken
possession of the center of my bed. I believe she is happy; she enjoys her toys
and lounging wherever she pleases. She is also healthy. She loves to |
 |
|
sit on me anywhere and purrs the whole time. She plays with her toys and she has
had no behavior problems. - Margaret Engel |

Hi PAWS Chicago!
I am a busy, busy mom with Oakley. She has adapted very well in my home.
She has been introduced to her new older sister Sugarpuss who is 2 ½ years. Oakley
loved that there was someone to play with off the bat but of course Sugarpuss
had a little getting used to. Oakley is full of energy and is a cuddler for
sure. She also likes to hide under the blankets with you when you're sleeping.
Also, she has a deep fascination with the shower |
and bathtub. Otherwise, she is growing into her own spirit and is nicknamed
"fancy face" because she is so beautiful when she stares at you. Thanks for the
new joy in my life!

Dear PAWS Chicago,
Thanks to all at PAWS for helping Buck and us get together. He is such a
blessing to Anna and I, and we can't imagine not having him around. He has put
on about 10 lbs. since we brought him home and has met many neighbors and
friends, as well as their dogs. We've been taking him to outdoor beer gardens,
dog parks, and even canoe camping on the Wisconsin River (where he learned to
swim/fetch)! Training is going great. I |
 |
|
don't think I'm being a doting parent when I say I think he's top in his class!
He sits, stays, will lay down and fetch - all on command. Thanks again to all at PAWS - Buck, Anna and I couldn't
be happier! - Sean Huls |

Dear PAWS Chicago,
Ritz is fine. My other cat Tongchi had little problems to get along
with him for first few days, but now they are okay. Although they are
not fully very friendly to each other just yet, they do chase each other
and wrestle. I think they are having a lot of fun together. Thank you.
Best,
Heun Soh |

Hi Paws Chicago!
Rooster (PAWS name Tuffy) only knows two states: sprint and sleep. The
pup and I get along just fine, and he's been a joy to have around. His living
quarters have been upgraded from the crate to a gated kitchen. He gets along
really well with the nieces and nephews, as well as all my friends. We finished
obedience school in March and he passed with flying colors. He was the smartest
wolf in there and |
 |
|
performed admirably, even with 15 other barking dogs! We both like to either go
out running or biking every night in the park, the dog of course wants to keep
going LONG after I'm ready to quit. For being only 18" tall at the shoulder,
during a full sprint he's still faster than I am on a bike. We're looking
forward to moving into a house this summer so he can have a backyard to enjoy.
Thanks again! - Dave Ruxton & Rooster |

Hi PAWS!
I wanted to let you know that Ben is doing great. We did change his name
shortly after we got him to AJ, but we decided to also keep the
name Ben that PAWS gave him, so his name is officially AJ Ben. We are really
happy with AJ, and we feel that he is very happy too. He runs and plays with my
sister's rottweiler Abby and where one goes the other follows. AJ recently
graduated from puppy education class and I plan on |
|
taking him back for an intermediate class in the next few months once he totally
absorbs what he learned in puppy class.
Thanks, Marty Mrozek |

Dear PAWS Chicago,
Duke (formerly Woodrow at PAWS) is doing great and has started puppy training
classes. He is growing bigger every day, but a still a sweet and lovable guy. We
are about done with house training and in full teething mode. He loves his
neighbors across the street - two beagles - and really enjoys being free in the
dog park. He is a welcome addition to our family! - Heather O'Brien |

Thumper (who I renamed Norman) is doing great! He is honestly the
greatest dog, and probably way too spoiled! I tell everyone I know or even meet
on the street that PAWS is the #1 place to go to rescue a dog or cat. The
animals that can be adopted truly become the best pets because they love their
owners so much and make amazing family members! I could have never asked
for a better dog. Thanks again!

Dear PAWS Chicago,
I wanted to write a note to update you all on how my cat Bella is, whom I
adopted in June of 2003. Bella is doing just wonderfully! She sees me off every
morning and greets me at the door when I get home. Her favorite pastimes include
fuzzy mice, catnip, and sitting in her windows chatting with the birds. She is a
superb cuddler and loves attention; I can honestly say she is spoiled rotten. I
wouldn't have it any other way for her. I am so |
 |
|
lucky to have her! I want to thank PAWS for keeping her safe and giving her a
home, allowing her to wait for me to find her in June of '03. Thanks again! - Brett and Bella |

Dear PAWS Chicago,
I think Egon is very happy with us! This is the most incredible dog, and
we feel so lucky to have found him. His obedience training is going really well,
and he LOVES walks down by the lake. Here is a picture of the Pasha on his
Syrian couch . . . Oh boy, tough life! ;-)

Dear PAWS Chicago,
We recently adopted Denver from the Lurie Adoption Clinic and wanted to
give you guys an update. Denver is now known as Crazy Charlie, or Little Guy, as
we call him. We let Charlie meet our one year old cat Rocky and they are now
inseparable. They fight, play, lay together. They are never apart and Rocky
likes to watch and lick and groom Charlie like a big brother. They also now |
|
share a bed, a big apartment to roam, and our hearts. We thank you so much for
our new family member. Love, Tiffany and Brian |

Dear PAWS Chicago,
We recently received a copy of Angel Tales and noticed that our dog Honus
(puppy #14) did not appear among the Katrina photos. We thought you might enjoy
an update. He's doing great and loves our 11 year old black lab. Honus has grown
several inches and gained weight. We celebrated his 1st birthday on Fat Tuesday
of this year. He really loved the cake! Thanks for providing us with the
opportunity to adopt this |

terrific dog. - Jane Donaldson & Family |

Hi PAWS,
Fudge here in my Halloween costume (I'm Yoda). I thought I'd
take a moment to let everyone know what's been going on since being adopted in
July of 2004. For starters, looking good really pays off! I’m spoiled rotten and
live in a huge apartment in Wrigleyville with four guys, so I see more walks in
a day than Barry Bonds. I’ve got two beds, loads of toys and treats, and a
personal soft resting place looking out our picture window. |
|
Some of my favorite things are lounging on the patio, wrestling with my friends
Maggie and Jake and going to Murphy’s Bleachers for hot dogs (you should stop
by; I might be there!). Take care and go Cubs!

Dear PAWS Chicago,
Cassie is doing extremely well! She's up to about 20 lbs. now, has a
clean bill of health, and has been an absolute joy. We had our first obedience
class on Thursday night, expecting that she'll be the star of the class.
Thanks!

Dear PAWS Chicago,
Juno (now called Lou) is doing very well. He is very much a member of the
family. He and our other Husky, Spencer, are inseparable. They play together all
day and are truly entertained and entertaining. I am continually impressed by
PAWS. Enjoy the photo of Lou hanging out in our son's bed.

Dear PAWS Chicago,
We just wanted to send a quick note to let you know that after a year
and a half, Ghreta (PAWS name Tango) is doing great. It took about 6-8 months
before we saw her complete personality. She has been a wonderful
addition to our lives. Thanks again!

Hey PAWS!
We are thrilled to report that Rascher, now Borvo (the black and
white one), is doing very well in our home. He and our previous cat Loki are
getting along fabulously! They are totally in love with each other and act like
litter mates. They chase, play, groom, and sleep together. We chose the name Borvo because it is the Celtic God of Healing. He healed our sad hearts after
the death of two of our cats. Our home is a very happy one now! Thanks so very
much for rescuing him. He's the best!

Hi PAWS Chicago!
Ali (PAWS name Camille) is so wonderful! She has just the sweetest
personality, and her tail is constantly wagging to the point that her whole back
end sways back and forth! She has met people and dogs of all types and sizes,
and has no issues or fears of anybody! We also have a cat, Willow, and the two
of them love to chase each other around and once in awhile take naps together.
House breaking her was relatively easy, and she |
 |
took to her crate very well - only a few days of whining and now it's
her haven. She plays with a variety of toys and really surprised me that she's
left all of our furniture, shoes, etc. alone. She's teething now and loves to
gnaw on her Nylabone. She is also so smart! She learned to sit in an hour, and
now she's doing very well in Puppy Preschool at the Anti-Cruelty Society. Thanks
you so much for our little girl! She is so wonderful!
Thanks, Shannon Slechter |

Hi PAWS Chicago,
Nimbus is doing fantastic! When we adopted him he was very shy and scared
of everything. He didn't bark or make any noise at all. After a week, he started
to settle in but then began to show typical Eskie traits of trying to run the
house, so twice a week we started taking him to dog training and doggie daycare
to help him with socialization. Now, we are in the advanced class and he's doing
great! He no longer feels the need to be alpha dog, |
 |
|
which has made him much more comfortable with Dave and me.
He's still scared of most things outside the house and strangers, but he loves
to go for car rides and to the dog park. He loves other dogs so much that we're
getting him a sister who will be coming home shortly. He's a very cuddly dog
with Dave and me and loves nothing more than being either in our laps or very
close to it! Dave and I definitely want to thank PAWS for the great work they
do! - Christina |

Hi PAWS,
Bailey (PAWS name "Belize") is doing great. She has another dog friend
named Abbey and a cat friend named Shalley. She is very very well behaved and a
very fast learner (we taught her how to roll over in about 30 minutes!). We've
had no problem with at-home obedience training and tricks but have signed her up
for obedience classes anyway, just to get some professional help with the harder
commands (her "come" is a little |
|
unpredictable). Everything is going very well and I'm so glad I adopted her!

Dear PAWS,
Jeremy, now Dexter, is doing very well. He is a big fat baby! He goes
everywhere he possibly can with us now. He loves visiting people and going for
car rides. When he's at home, he's busy chewing bones and playing with his Bobo
toy. He's actually very playful. He would have been a great agility dog because
he loves bouncing around. I can't even believe the places he can jump to if I
turn my back for even a second. |
|
He is an excellent shadow and cuddler! We are
so happy that we decided to adopt Dexter! I just love him and I'm pretty sure he
feels the same. :) - Amanda |

Hi PAWS Chicago,
Tucker is doing great! She's become quite the little companion and lap dog.
Her previous owners said that she loves the water hose and yesterday we found
out that they weren't kidding! Even the neighbors had to come out to see what
was going on. :) We've also got her a spot in an obedience class starting in
June. Most people can't believe she's nine years old since she can still jump
about four feet in the air when she'd excited. She's been |
 |
|
such a treat to have around and even though she's a lot of work, she's very much
worth it. Sincerely, Tracy Turner |

Kingston is being as sweet as ever and constantly cuddling with us. He
purrs all the time and runs around playing with his dangling toys around the
apartment. Since the first day he arrived at our apartment, he has made it home.
He sleeps in our room with us every night and occasionally jumps up on the bed
with us. He's energetic, spunky, and the most loveable cat we could have asked
for. Thanks again!

Dear PAWS Chicago,
I adopted a kitty from you almost 2 years ago. She's a Norwegian Forest Cat, and
we drove all the way from Peoria to get her. She's my baby girl and I love her
to death. She is always opening my wardrobe doors or getting into one of the
floor level dish cabinets. Of course, the other kitties learned from her so now
they open these doors as well, but not as easily as she does. I named her
Bunny because she's my |
 |
|
little cuddle bunny, my honey bunny. When she's happy and playful, instead of
running like the other kitties she hops like a little bunny rabbit. Bunny is
very much loved and treasured. We don't know what we'd do without our girl. -
