PAWS Chicago Alumni

Hello PAWS Chicago!
It's me Rosie. I just wanted to tell you how happy I am with my new
mom and dad. My mom and I go walking almost everyday now that I am
heartworm free. Thank you for putting us together!
- Carol, Sylvester and Rosie Huntowski

Dear PAWS,
We adopted Red almost a year ago and Lady about a month ago; we could not have asked for better additions to the family! Red (shown here with our other cat Nermal) is such an incredibly friendly cat. He jumps in your lap immediately when you sit down. And Lady will play fetch for hours and then sweetly snuggle up next to us
on the couch. We are so lucky to have adopted this duo and are so thankful to PAWS Chicago for rescuing them. We are a very happy family! - Jim & Christine Witte

Sandy seems very appreciative of her new home and family. She loves nothing more than taking her morning walks, going for rides in the car, laying down by the fireplace and being petted on the belly. She is a very loving dog who has taken very well to our five-year-old daughter and, surprisingly, gets along just fine with our cat. We'll be starting dog kindergarten in January. She still has a few things to learn but her overall behavior and demeanor has been way beyond my expectations. Sandy is a great dog.  By the way, she is enjoying the snow, too!

Dear PAWS Chicago,
I adopted Emma (her original name was Janet) in August of 1998. She spend the first 2 days hiding under my bed, and I thought she would never like me. But within a few days, she was eager to be petted. Now she sleeps on me and purrs all the time. Sometimes she sleeps next to me and stretches one paw out to touch me. She is the best cat anyone could
ask for. We moved to Boston together and now we live in San Francisco. I started volunteering at a local animal shelter to hopefully give other loving cats and dogs a better chance at a happy life. Thank you so much! - Geraldine Strasser

Dear PAWS Chicago:
Harriet is a very sweet dog believed to be a harrier/basset hound mix. She had a terrible ordeal last winter before being rescued by a police officer and taken to PAWS Chicago. We adopted her in June and feel that she is now getting the life she deserves. She sleeps at the foot of our bed and goes on several walks a day and rides in the car. She is very proud of her quilted jacket from the Downtown Dog which she needs as
she does not have a very heavy coat. We chose to keep her PAWS Chicago name but added Gardiner as her middle name and she seems to like being referred to as Miss Gardiner. Harriet is very fond of my 92 year old father who lives with us and they keep each other company during the day. She recently completed her dog obedience course and very much enjoyed the outing. She had no trouble accomplishing the required tasks. Harriet has some allergy problems and is presently taking a series of allergy shots that will hopefully take care of it. We feel that Harriet joining our family was meant to be and that it was fate that brought me to the PAWS Chicago adoption event in early June.  Thanks!  - Ellen

We just wanted to thank PAWS Chicago for bringing Mandy into our lives. We adopted her at the Oak Brook Mall (on 8-20-05), and are so glad that she's become a part of our lives. She was very timid and quiet at first but has become such a wonderful, loveable pet. It took her a couple of days before she even barked! Now she's active and has made many friends in the neighborhood, children, adults, and other dogs included. She's learned to love her walks, and absolutely loves to be
petted. The kids lay on the floor & play with her, and she, in turn, loves the attention. Thank you!  We look forward to many more enjoyable years with the loveable Mandy.

We could not be happier with the newest additions to our family, Sebastian, Moe, and Tom! In August we all watched Hurricane Katrina destroy New Orleans and leave a million people homeless. Everyone wanted to help and when we heard that PAWS went to the effected area and rescued hundreds of displaced pets, we decided to foster ONE dog for a few days. We came home with THREE tiny Siamese kittens that were barely 8 weeks old, sickly and quite
malnourished. Kittens 7, 8, 9 as they were called, spent the next few days eating a lot (the smallest weighed 1lb), playing with toys and began sleeping on our feet at night. In that short amount of time, we fell completely in love with them. We've quickly discovered why people refer to their pets as members of the family and couldn't be happier that they've invaded our lives with their rambunctious tendencies and cuddly friendly personalities. They are absolutely wonderful!

They always say that you will find true love when you are not looking and that is exactly what happened with Addie. My roommate fostered her for nearly two weeks and when the day came to take her to an adoption event, I went with them and adopted her myself! Addie now enjoys sunshine year round in Phoenix, Arizona, where we take long walks and lots of trips to the dog park. She is a special little girl and I thank PAWS Chicago for bringing her into my life!

Dear PAWS,
Parker (PAWS name Daisy) is doing well after almost a year of being in
her new home. She has settled into being the perfect city dog. Parker
loves to be active whether it is going for a walk or to the dog park, or going with me on a car ride. She is a Daddy's girl, but loves meeting new people and other dogs. She is still getting used to the cold weather, but loves the snow. Thanks again for the great pup!
- Brett

Dear PAWS Chicago,
I have to be honest, 2005 didn't start out too well. Finding out our beagle "Molly" had bladder cancer and it was only a matter of time.  Then, 6 months later we found out our beagle "Daisy" had lung cancer.  How long do we wait to get another dog/dogs? We don't want to offend the memory of Molly and Daisy. Then the call came in there were two dogs from the Hurricane that needed a home. The decision had to be made. Molly and Daisy would understand I thought. After all, they both
came from people that didn't want them anymore (that I will never understand), and we gave them a home and a family in their time of need. So, with that, we brought home Cali and Cooper. Keep in mind, these two dogs could never be separated. They need each other to survive.  These dogs look identical but have such different personalities. They have brought us so much joy and happiness.  This will be our first Christmas without Molly and Daisy, but I believe this is Cali and Coopers 1st Christmas ever. We have plenty of gifts for them but most of all a home and family that loves them. Thanks PAWS, for our early Christmas presents!

I adopted Guinness in April of 2003 at a PAWS event on Halsted. When I walked in and saw her sad eyes - well, needless to say, she had me at "hello." When I learned more about her backstory I was nervous as her previous owners, who had her since she was a pup, stated that she was not getting along with their kids. I was nervous as my sister had a 3 month old. Well, my fears were soon put to rest. Guinness (aka Gi Gi for Guinness Girl) is great with both my nephews. She has never been
aggressive with her or any other child. She and I went to training and that really helped our bond. Needless to say, she is my life now and I can't imagine it without her. She has taught me so much. I often wonder why the old owners opted to get rid of her, but then I realize if they hadn't I would never had her in my life. She is a bundle of energy I often wonder if she is the age she is (somewhere between 6 and 8). I have attached a picture of her in front of my Christmas tree sporting antlers, the pic makes me laugh as it's the epitome of "Mom - why do you make me where this stuff" a kid would say. Thank you again for your organization and everything you do. Happy Holidays!

Dear PAWS,
Thank you so much for my happy new family! Willow and Paisley (PAWS names Sedona and Soleil) are the most wonderful, cuddly lovebugs. As you can see, they have made themselves right at home. Paisley loves to give ear kisses and cannot get close enough when its time for bed. Every night she tries to sleep on my pillow but eventually settles for curling into
my neck. Willow prefers sleeping behind my knees and loves to watch TV
with a paw on my arm or leg. I am so thankful to PAWS for giving my precious girls a home until we found each other. - Michelle Jost

We've seen how much Finley had grown in our family. He's full grown at
92 pounds and still thinks he's just a baby. He enjoys sleeping in bed
with Mommy and Daddy, being held like a baby, playing tug-of-war with
his sister, and having others chase him. He's our baby and one of our
greatest joys. Thanks for taking such great care for him until we could
get our "paws" on him. This is Finley making himself comfy in my laundry
basket...he didn't quite fit. - Lisa Dahms

Dear PAWS Chicago,
We just thought we'd send along a picture of our wonderful new kitty, Rodney (former PAWS name A.J.). We adopted him from the third PAWS Hurricane Katrina rescue mission. While we know that this is a foster-to-adopt situation, we have really grown to love this wonderful guy. Clearly, his previous family loved him very much, as he is the most people-friendly cat we've ever had! Thank you so much for letting Rodney spend this time with
us. We will be positively thrilled if he becomes a permanent member of our family!

Hi PAWS Chicago! Sinbad and Comet are a couple of old gentlemen (12 & 10) whose owner could no longer take care of them. They've been together all their lives. They were fortunate enough to have a WONDERFUL foster mom and family (doggy and people!) to love and care for them until we came along and adopted them! They have fit in so nicely with
our crew and are just giant love-buttons!  They make us smile when they nudge us for more "pet me"'s. We intend to love and care for them the rest of their lives and that is so easy with these guys! They are awesome! Thanks to everyone at PAWS for caring enough to adopt these two out together and for giving them a chance in their senior years!!!  Happy Holidays to you all!
Sincerely, Melissa and family :)
