Pet Food Recall

On March 16, 2007, Menu Foods Income Fund announced the recall of a portion of the cat and dog food it manufactured between December 3, 2006 and March 3, 2007. Since the original recall date, other pet food products have been recalled including dry pet foods. The recall was prompted by the discovery of wheat gluten found in the food, and the FDA is now reporting that melamine has been found in the wheat gluten, in the recalled pet food, and in the urine and kidney from a cat that died in the initial food trial conducted by Menu Foods. Melamine is used in fertilizers in Asia, the production of plastic kitchenware, and in Magic Eraser cleaning sponges. This product should never be found in pet food.
