Commitment: 12 - 20 hours per week over a 3-6-month semester, minimum 100 hours

Ideal candidates will be able to work well in a team, as well as independently, and have a positive, go-getter attitude. Qualified candidates will also have excellent social media skills, including demonstrated experience using at least Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Experience with what content and strategies work with particular platforms. Experience with social analytics or paid social advertising is a plus.
Social Media Responsibilities
The social media intern will assist the Communications Team with the collection and sharing of stories. Responsibilities will include:
- Gathering information for stories through online research and interviews with PAWS employees, volunteers and adopters
- Writing social media content for Facebook, Twitter, Instagram on topics including animal profiles and upcoming fundraising and adoption events
- Capturing photos or video footage of animals during their journey at PAWS Chicago
- Editing videos for animal profiles and event recaps
- Attention to detail, branding guidelines and grammar skills are a must!
Traditional Media Responsibilities
The traditional media intern will assist the Communications Team with media outreach, storytelling, archiving, gathering information and special events. Responsibilities may include:
- Writing animal descriptions for weekly media segments
- Drafting media alerts for upcoming events
- Maintaining spreadsheets, tracking and archiving earned media
- Media outreach for PAWS Chicago’s fundraising and adoption events
- Provide onsite support during event and media opportunities
Requirements
- Excellent reporting, writing and editing skills required
- Ability to write accurate and compelling stories for a variety of social media platforms
- Willing to travel to locations around Chicago via public transit or personal transportation
- Excellent photography and video capture skills utilizing smartphone or DSLR camera to capture images of cats and dogs as they move from intake to adoption
- Ability to work proactively and independently and be able to multi-task
- A genuine interest in, and desire to learn more about animal welfare and the No Kill movement
