What originally drew you to PAWS Chicago?
I have been a PAWS Chicago volunteer for about one year. I attended a PAWS volunteer orientation, and found so many different opportunities at PAWS and so much flexibility with scheduling. They really made it easy to get involved.
Do you have a primary focus when you volunteer?>
I volunteer at the Rescue & Recovery Center on 26th Street. One morning each week, I transport dogs and cats from the 26th Street intake facility to the Adoption Center. I also volunteer in the Recovery Room at the Spay and Neuter Clinic.
Is there a favorite experience that has stood out during your time as a volunteer at PAWS Chicago?
I fell big time for a really sweet older Golden Retriever named Edmond. He came in to the shelter with a Lhasa Apso. He could not be transported to the Adoption Center because veterinarians were waiting for results on some tests. I wondered if he had been adopted, but recently saw his picture as the Foster of the Month. PAWS is looking for a hospice home for him and his Lhasa Apso buddy. He is an amazing dog, and I know someone will give him and his buddy a happy home.
Why do you volunteer for PAWS Chicago?
I volunteer at PAWS Chicago because I support the mission of achieving a No Kill Chicago and believe it is an effective organization that can achieve that goal. Also, I love animals and this is one way I can be around them and help them. At PAWS Chicago, I feel like I am not only helping the individual dog or cat, but also, by being involved in the Lurie Spay/Neuter Clinic, I am a part of a longer term solution. I also really enjoy interacting with the PAWS staff members at both 26th Street and the Adoption Center. They are so dedicated and knowledgeable.
