Volunteers of the Month single view | PAWS Chicago

Roy Veverka

The road to a No Kill Chicago is quite often a literal road. If you’ve seen a PAWS Chicago van, there’s a good chance Roy was the one behind the wheel. He’s been one of our most consistent and accommodating volunteer drivers, and we’re so grateful for his steady hand.

From animal intake, to trips between our Medical Center and adoption centers, to volunteer pick-ups, our vans need to be constantly on the road in order to save lives. Click here to learn more about how you can join Roy and all our wonderful drivers on the road to a No Kill Chicago!

1. How long have you been volunteering with PAWS Chicago? What originally drew you to the organization?

I have been volunteering for 3 years, I have a passion for dogs, and I enjoy being able to help them!

2. Which PAWS Chicago programs/areas do you volunteer in and why?

My job is to transport animals and people (in that order, lol!). I transport animals to all of PAWS locations and to different vets around Illinois.

3. Do you have a favorite experience or memory from your time volunteering?

I really enjoy meeting all the different volunteers and dogs on each one of my rides.

4. What motivates you to continue volunteering with PAWS Chicago?

I love dogs, and my rides literally bring each one that much closer to adoption. It’s a great feeling!

5. Do you have any advice for someone who is considering becoming a volunteer?

Get off the sofa and do it!
