Sara Cuautle
After attending our Volunteer Open House back in September, Sara Cuautle was so inspired that she logged 70 hours in her first two months of volunteering. Find out what sparked her passion.
In September, PAWS Chicago hosted a Volunteer Open House, inviting prospective volunteers to learn more about the experience. For attendee Sara Cuautle, signing up wasn’t a difficult decision.
"They said that I would be able to walk the puppies and dogs. So, I was like, ‘Why not?’ I then signed up for my training at the Medical Center and was hooked!” says Sara.
Today, Sara is an avid volunteer at the PAWS Chicago Nan & Wayne Kocourek Medical Center in Little Village.
“Walking or even playing with the puppies and dogs is going to make you feel good. Why would you not want to play and walk with cute puppies and be able to pet the doggies?” queries Sara.
Naturally, walking dogs is still one of Sara’s favorite volunteer activities.
“You can see how much they enjoy being outside and sniffing around. And my favorite times at PAWS are when I get to walk a group of dogs with other volunteers. The dogs love walking together, and it’s a fun way to chat and get to know fellow volunteers,” says Sara.
Sara also enjoys talking to high-level volunteers who can share their tips and stories. She says, “I really appreciate the info and their comradery.”
When Sara’s not out and about, she can often be found by our washers and dryers. “I like to fold the laundry at PAWS as it’s a very calming and necessary task,” explains Sara.
In everything Sara does as a volunteer, she’s glad for the chance to make a difference.
“I grew up watching TV ads that show dogs in bad conditions, and the ads still exist. I didn’t have pets growing up so watching those ads made me feel helpless. I love now being a part of this mission and helping these animals who were stray, sick, injured or came from situations where they weren’t treated properly,” says Sara.
In her first two months of volunteering at PAWS, Sara logged 70 hours of service. But her participation is more than an act of charity.
“My favorite hobby is coming to PAWS and being with the puppies and dogs. I have so much fun. They are so cute that I can't resist coming back,” says Sara.
