INTRODUCE SHORT INDEPENDENT BREAKS
As you begin to make plans for a change in your schedule, start setting expectations with your dog now by introducing independence.
- Start by watching our video on crate training (above) to provide your dog with a safe space while you are away.
- Leave your crated dog in a different room and out of sight with a long-lasting, high value treat while you work from home.
- Once they’re comfortable, leave the house for short periods of time. Even a walk around the block without your dog helps make sure they’re not dependent on having you around 24/7.
Don’t forget – if you change too much too quickly, your dog will get confused. Taking small steps now will benefit your dog in the long run.
