There’s something special about Duncan. Maybe it’s the fact that, like a true Chicagoan, she loves a good ketchup-free hot dog. Maybe it’s her strong preference for belly rubs over walks. Or, just maybe, it’s her winning smile – she won the “Best Smile” award in our Nose Work training class! Whatever it is, Duncan spent her time at PAWS climbing the ranks to cement her spot as a PAWS volunteer favorite.

Unfortunately, Duncan didn’t always have a crowd of people rooting for her future. Before coming to PAWS, Duncan was days away from euthanasia. As deserving of love as she is, she faced several challenges that made it more difficult to find her a home. She needed a pet-free, kid-free family to help her navigate a world that scared her. We weren’t going to give up until we found it.

Enter Elisa and Kyle. In July, they contacted our foster team wanting to give a dog in need refuge from shelter life. Their home matched Duncan’s needs and after falling in love, they realized they couldn’t let her go. Duncan’s new parents said, “She has been the most amazing addition to our family. She’s so quirky, so fun, so full of love.” Congratulations, Duncan!

Other homeless cats and dogs like Duncan are still waiting to find their homes. You can meet them all at pawschicago.org/adopt.
