Meet Uriah, the cat who believes without seeing
Oct 12, 2020
Uriah was born with a rare disorder called microphthalmia that left him with two tiny eyes and no sight.
Before we even began caring for him at our Medical Center, we knew his disorder could lead to a whole host of complications, including surgery to remove his eyes. But whatever he’d need, our new state-of-the-art Medical Center provided him with every possible resource. Uriah’s the reason we spent the last five years planning, fundraising and building one of the premier homeless pet hospitals in the nation. Watch his short story. We think you’ll agree all that work is worth it.
The Ohio-based rescue group who found him knew he needed help and knew they didn’t have the resources to give him what he needed. With nowhere else for Uriah to turn and a future that looked uncertain, they called us.
He arrived in early September, about four months old. He couldn’t see our Medical Center team rally together to develop his best treatment plan and he doesn’t know what his special cat-pal, Quint, looks like. But he doesn’t need eyes to know he’s safe, loved and cared for. His gentle, trusting and playful personality told us instantly he knew good things were in his future. Now, after receiving the necessary medical care, Uriah’s learning how to navigate life as a foster pet!
As we get closer to achieving our goal of a No Kill Chicago, the animals we save have more severe illnesses, injuries, or a greater fear of the world. There are plenty of other animals like Uriah still battling pain and sickness at our Medical Center. They’re at the very core of our new Medical Center and our mission to building a No Kill Chicago, and they need the help of Homestretch Heroes.
