Ellie's Story

Ellie has been with us for 7 months and is doing fantastically well! She was a Level 3 dog at PAWS, but you wouldn't guess that now. Tennis balls are still her favorite toy, and she's thrilled when we get to bring them to the dog beach! She really enjoys meeting other dogs, especially on a one-at-a-time basis during our runs in the park, and has a few favorite doggie friends that she's always happy to see. When she first came to us, hugs made her uncomfortable, but now they are one of her other favorite things - we offer them instead of a treat when we need her to come inside and it works perfectly. She has her own hula hoop and loves jumping through it - teaching her that only took a couple of tries, she's smart and so motivated to learn. She knows her favorite toys by name - for instance, she'll bring me her duck, and pick him out of a pile of 20 toys (yes, she's spoiled). Mornings are her favorite. When she's finished eating and going outside, she picks up a toy, goes to her favorite rug, lays on her back with her feet in the air, keeps her toy in her front paws, and kicks her back feet like a rabbit - if we ask her if she's happy she kicks more, its pretty endearing! She also loves getting dressed up - a sweatshirt or a sweater on a normal day, or her costumes around Halloween (she has two: a pumpkin and Wonder Woman). Christmas with Ellie was a blast - she loved opening her own presents and helping others open theirs too!
